Beyond Rehearsals

Solos Concert

All our players have the opportunity to bring a solo piece they are working on. Over two days we allocate students a slot with our course accompanist – whether their piece has an accompaniment or not – for feedback. This may be a piece they are preparing for an examination or performance, a new piece they are still learning, or another piece that they would like the chance to play with our accompanist.

From those that bring solo pieces, we select approximately 20 students to perform in our solos concert, giving students the chance to perform to a warm audience of their peers. This is always a fantastic informal concert with a wide range of musical styles on display.

Chamber Music

With the exception of students in Year 11 and 13 preparing for GCSE and A Levels (who we anticipate use the time for independent revision), all players can choose to take part in a chamber music ensemble. These small groups are tutored by members of our team, with each group choosing a piece or pieces to perform in our informal Chamber Music Concert. Previous groups have included wind and brass quintets, percussion ensembles, saxophone octets and many other combinations.

Recreation

With sports facilities, table tennis, pool tables, board games and common rooms in which to hang out with friends, our course members are able to relax when not in rehearsals.

Our Pastoral Team are on hand to ensure all students are safe and well throughout the course, but also arrange popular evening activities including a karaoke session and a movie night.
